Avaerand begins to awaken. New cults begin appearing, devoted to dark gods. Politics became embroiled in intrigue, and secret guilds of assassins are formed to meet the demand. Wizards research spells of horrific power, while sorcerers probe the darkest corners of the Dreaming in search of power. At the same time, Avaerans begin to explore the northern coasts of Qaiyore, trading and taking slaves. The whole kingdom of Avaerand comes under a dark shadow. |

Great earthquakes, and tsunamis devastate the western coasts, leaving the Elyrian port cities and Qaiyorean colonies in ruins. Many of the western isles disappear, and Celpalar is left desolate. A great cloud of stinking fog blankets the region. |

Whilst attacking the west coast city of Bega, Annaeyana is sabotaged by unknown forces. The city almost crashes from the sky but is saved by an incredible weaving of magic by the Archmage, causing his death. Rival claimants to the throne throw the Empire into disarray. Annaeyana is abandoned by the sorcerers and is left travelling a circular flight above what came to be known as the shadowlands. |

Subjugated nations rise against the sorcerers. The sorcerers, themselves split into opposing factions, send the dragons to still the revolt. The rebellious nations are devastated by dragonfire - millions starve to death. |
BE15 | 1206 | Many Dark Elves leave the service of the Sorcerers and permanently return to The Dreaming for reasons unknown. |

The gateway to The Dreaming is closed from within. Unable to re-open the source of their power, the sorcerers are openly paranoid. Mir plunges into civil war. |
BE12 | 1209 | The few remaining Dark Elves are trapped on Qaiyore. They leave the Sorcerers in search of a land of their own. |

Again the attendant nations rise against the oppressive rule of the sorcerers - this time they are victorious. The monstrous armies are driven back from the mainland. The dragons are now few, most having succumbed to a mysterious sickness on the closure of the gateway. Magic is outlawed on the mainland. The sorcerers maintain control of Mir. |
