The Saraan is a completely pacifist society, univerally opposed to violence. Their religion forbids it, and they are by their very nature non-violent. Thus, they have no military infrastructure, nor will they hire mercenary forces from other societies. In the event of a military attack, the Saraan would choose to flee or even accept extermination rather than take up arms and defend themselves.
