Actions in the Game Year 1437

Society Name: Cedonia

Action 1: Invasion!
Single Action Duke of Caladyn and his forces invade the lands held by General Zenos. The Duke's primary goal is to pin Zenos' forces in the field and crush them. His secondary goal is to take control of the towns & cities that Zenos holds, denying their resources to Zenos. Difficulty: Hard (-1) Modifiers: -The size of the armies in relation to the area available to maneuver in is small. -Zenos will probably maneuver to avoid contact initially

Action 2: Defense!
Single Action General Zenos decides to attempt to refuse battle in the open field with the Duke's forces. Instead, he begins to maneuver his army into a strong defensive position in the western foothills near the Tanimbar border. The General is betting that Duke of Caladyn will not be prepared to attack a prepared defensive position. Unfortunately, there is a chance that the Duke's forces will catch up with Zenos's men before they can reach their destination
Difficulty: Hard (-1)
Modifiers: -Zenos has quite a distance to march, through rather open ground -Zenos is reacting to Caladyn's action, so he does not order the march right away.
Suggestions on Resolution:
Action 1 Success + Action 2 Success: Zenos reaches his chosen ground, but Duke Caladyn attacks him anyway. Make a separate roll to determine outcome of battle, with Zenos receiving a +1 bonus due to good prepared defensive ground.
Action 1 Success + Action 2 Mixed: The Duke catches Zenos before Zenos can reach the foothills, but fails to achieve surprise. Roll to determine battle outcome. Action 1 Success + Action 2 Failure: The Duke manages to ambush Zenos on open ground. Make a separate roll to determine outcome of battle, with the Duke receiving a +1 bonus for surprise.

Action 1 Mixed + Action 2 Success: Zenos reaches his defensive position successfully. The Duke begins to besiege it, while detatching some forces to take control of local population centers.
Action 1 Mixed + Action 2 Mixed: The Duke's men and Zenos' men skirmish continuously all the way to the Western Foothills. Both armies are temporarily reduced in Force by one next year due to exhaustion.
Action 1 Mixed + Action 2 Failure: The Duke catches Zenos just at the edge of the western foothills, and brings him to battle. Roll seperately to determine outcome. No bonus Action 1 Failure + Action 2 Success: The Duke couldn't find Zenos if he had a map. By the time the Duke figures out where Zenos is, it's the end of the campaigning season. Zenos gets the whole winter to dig in.
Action 1 Failure + Action 2 Mixed: The Duke's pursuit forces Zenos to take an alternate route west. Although the Duke never catches up to Zenos, the General reaches the foothills after the ground has frozen, and is unable to dig in.
Action 1 Failure + Action 2 Failure: The two armies wander around southern Cedonia chasing each other, but never manage to come in contact. They do succeed, however, in denuding the land of food. Resources drop by 1 for next year.

Action 3 & 4
Strategic Double This is simply a continuation of the Cedonian republicans' metallurgy project. However, this year, they're taking far more care in vetting the credentials of the people they hire. Difficulty: Hard (-1) [I think that's right, anyway.]

Action resolution

Action 1
Resolution: Diff = Hard (-1) + Dice (---0) + Extras (0) = -4 Severe failure
Results & interpretation: (See below)

Action 2
Resolution: Diff = Hard (-1) + Dice (++-0) + Extras (0) = 0 Mixed results
Results: No progress whatsoever for the Duke. There's a -1 to the size of his forces for next year, and a further -1 for any military actions next year against Zenos' territory. Interpretation: The Duke suffers repeatedly small but humiliating defeats against Zenos' rear action. Furthermore, a severe winter flu hits his troops, and finally he is forced to retreat back home with only half of his troops in fighting condition. The Duke's pursuit forces Zenos to take an alternate route west. Although the Duke never catches up to Zenos, the General reaches the foothills after the ground has frozen, and is unable to dig in.

Action 3-4
Resolution: Diff = Very hard (-2) + Dice (++--) + Extras (+1) = -1 Failure
Results: Still no success. Success pool = (x,x,x).
Interpretation:
